The hotel is situated along the border between the Tropical and Dry Pacific eco-systems. This unique situation allows our guests to benefit twofold, allowing them to observe over 400 species of birds as well as exotic animals, such as the poison dart frog, deer, jaguar, wild pigs, bats, raccoons, anteaters, lizards and several types of monkeys (spider monkey and congo) and other jungle creatures. All of this at a mere 90 minutes away (by road) from San José and the Juan Santamaría International Airport!
Villa Lapas's private natural reserve limits with that of Carara Biological Reserve, one of the biggest protected areas in the Costa Rican Pacific featuring one of the few remaining populations of Scarlet Macaws in the country, and with the Tárcoles River, home of many crocodiles that can be easily seen from the river bridge, and a favorite birdwatching spot as well.
Cruise travelers take note: The Caldera port in the Pacific Ocean is just 30 minutes away from Villa Lapas (see map below), so you can easily plan your crusing schedule to get a taste of the exotic Costa Rican rainforest and our first-class service!
We are just minutes away from the best beaches in the Pacific, the busting beach-towns of Jacó, Herradura, Playa Hermosa (a longtime favorite spot with surfers) and the marvelous Manuel Antonio beaches and national park. To say our location is strategic would be an understatement.
Take the Bernardo Soto Highway to the west through the "Cruce Manolos" (Intersection). Turn right at this point, following the signs to Jacó/Quepos. Continue through passing Atenas and Orotina towns. From Orotina, head south to the Coastal Highway, following signs to Jacó (about 45 km / 28 mi). Entrance to Hotel Villa Lapas is located past the Tárcoles and Quebrada Ganado towns on the left side, about 30 km / 18 mi from Orotina (signs provided).
